Can You Use Textbooks?

It was a simple request from a teenage member of the Western Hills Church of Christ in Austin, Texas late last year. 

“Can they use school textbooks?” 

The answer,“yes”. 

 One could hardly imagine that Brielle would be so successful that three semi trailers are being prepared for shipment to Malawi. The trailers will contain 30,000 school textbooks. 


No one could have imagined at the time what this one teenager was going to accomplish. She has done her part. Now the next step falls to others to help her reach her goal of getting these 30,000 school textbooks to the children of Malawi.

It will cost nearly $33,000.00 to send the trailers halfway around the world with the much needed school books.

Visiting a Village Hut

Unless you live in sub-Sahara Africa ... Unless you live in one of the poorest parts of the world ... Unless you have spent time in a Malawi Village ...

Yes, unless you have been there, are there, or spend a lot of time visiting there it will be impossible for you to comprehend what it is like to live in an African Village Hut in poverty like nothing else in the world. Words will describe it. Pictures will show it. Try as you might it will be hard to imagine there are people who suffer in silence in one of the poorest nations in the world.

In a mult-part series we have tried to describe in pictures and text the story of a grandmother who is caring for a number of grandchildren after the death of their parents. You will see the rooms of her house, the grain storage facility, and her orchard and garden.

NBC News Tells About Little Dresses

Girls in new Dresses

After meetings, early in 2011, near Detroit with the founder of Little Dresses for Africa, Scott Gordon and Dick Stephens carried 75 of the dresses to Malawi in July for little girls. The dresses were actually made from pillow cases. The little girls seldom receive any gifts, and a new dress is something many of them never get in their entire lives.  NBC Nightly News carried a story about Little Dresses early in 2011, and on December 20th the Nightly Network News (NBC) will report a follow up story. Part of the content for the story was filmed in Malawi a few weeks ago.
